The objectives of this project are to: (1) use numerical simulation to analyze effective configurations for using self-centering BRBs in the retrofit of existing curved bridges for moderate to high seismic regions; (2) develop an analytical model which simplifies the design of curved bridges when self-centering BRBs are implemented for control of longitudinal and lateral seismic forces in new bridges. In addition, the repairability of the bridge columns will be investigated experimentally using a retrofit method developed for ABC connections.
